Because of the lockdowns in 2020, our family of four eventually found ourselves having to leave our home on my birthday, 4 December 2024.

Our daughter was barely 17, and our son was only 12.

Our hearts were numb, because what do you do when you don’t even know where you are going? What do you say to your children when you don’t have the answers yourself?

During the last two weeks before we had to leave, we slowly started getting rid of almost everything we owned. By the time moving day arrived, we had nothing left except our clothes and a few personal belongings.

Then D-Day came — the day we had to leave.

A friend allowed us to stay with him for a week, so our family moved into one room with everything we had left.

By the grace of God, we were then able to get a caravan to live in.

We packed up once again and moved to a campsite in a very small town in the Swartland.

For those of you who don’t know the Swartland — it gets incredibly hot!

We tried our best to stay positive, but the shock of going from living in a home to living in a caravan was incredibly traumatic.

It was hot. You shared your personal space with strangers. You had to walk some distance just to use the bathroom or take a shower. And we haven’t even mentioned the dust, the crickets, and the grasshoppers!

We had to learn to survive on the cheapest food we could find, including things like food socks.

Life became very difficult.

By that stage, emotionally, I honestly didn’t know how much more I could handle.

Thankfully, on 1 February 2025, we were able to move into a beautiful little one-bedroom house on a farm in the Swartland.

It was nothing but the grace of God, together with the kindness of the owners who trusted us enough to rent the house to us despite everything we had been through.

At first, we still had to sleep in the caravan.

Every month remained a struggle just to keep our heads above water, especially because my husband’s contract work became less and less.

Slowly but surely, we also had to start furnishing a home again from scratch.

After three months, we were finally able to sell the caravan and move fully into the little house.

It felt like such a blessing.

But financially, we still knew that something had to change.

Because of the challenges and limitations we were facing in our country, we desperately needed to find an additional source of income — and fast.

That is when we came across a proven program that has already made such a difference in the lives of thousands of ordinary people just like us.

We are so excited to say that we took the opportunity.

And we are not looking back.

And one thing is for sure…

We definitely never want to live in a caravan again!
